VOLTA - commercial

I was hired by director Will Cheaney to colour grade a commercial for the now "ill fated" Volta trucks company.

The commercial was shot in Paris on the RED Komodo against a backdrop of rain and riots. This limited my options as a colourist a little, as in my head I had the rather warm palettes reminiscent of Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris".

Instead I decided to lean into the coolness of the shots but bring out the warmth whenever there was any.

There were some set pieces in the commercial in which the lighting was more in the control of the DP and for these I was able to employ my usual commercial techniques and overall blend them into the cool feeling of the rest of the commercial.

It was really great working with Will who understood the limitations of the footage and was ready to create a look and feel that had impact, even if it didn't match his original vision.
